TALLINN BLACK NIGHTS INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL 2025 - REBELS WITH A CAUSE
Marine archaeologist Sofia embarks on a radical mission: to prove that ancient pottery once captured sound, etched like a primitive vinyl record. Before she can test ancient amphoras, she must sculpt replicas to experiment with. Reluctantly, she enlists the help of her cynical ex-brother-in- law, a failed sculptor drowning in wine and resentment toward sound itself— especially the racket of her foul-mouthed cockatoo and her mischievous Bluetooth vibrator. Amid clashing egos and surreal twists, the journey leads to a discovery that transcends centuries.
DIRECTOR'S NOTES
The following thematic inquiry, that progresses from generalities to specificities, ultimately became the thematic structure which is layered almost chronologically in the script's narration: How does the antagonism between opposing principles develop? To what extent is principle motivated by concepts like sloth, fundamentalism, absurdity, incoherence, scepticism, rivalry, ego, vanity, and the existential human desire to transcend?

WORLD PREMIERE - TALLINN BLACK NIGHTS (PÖFF) IFF
Director Spiros Stathoulopoulos, famed for his daring aesthetic and sensual provocations, trades gravitas for sharp, subversive satire. “The Megalomaniacs” ridicules academic hubris and sacred dogmas alike, vibrating with irreverent humour and just the right touch of erotic mischief.
